1. spells not cast
The casting of spells is a memorable element of Knightmare: there was something fascinating for young watchers about seeing fellow youngsters controlling magic. (Which may help to explain why those J. K. Rowling books I keep hearing about are so popular.) However, a significant number of Knightmare's spells were not actually cast - either because they were mentioned but never acquired, or because the team's quest ended before a suitable spellcasting opportunity arose, or for other reasons.

Some spells which were unused during one quest were used during a different quest, so ultimately it was fairly clear what their effect would have been (e.g. ANVIL, FLARE, RETURN). In these instances, the 'uncast' label is arguably inapplicable.

However, some of those that were cast during one quest could well have had a different effect on the other occasion if they had been cast (e.g. ENERGY, OPPOSITE, GHOST). This constitutes something of a grey area.

Many, though, were simply never cast, giving rise to several intriguing areas of speculation among Knightmare fans. TRANSFORMATION and BUT have probably provoked more such curiosity than any of their named counterparts.

In addition to the named yet uncast spells, some quests hinted at magic that was neither cast nor even named. Examples include Owen's "dragon magic" and Merlin's anti-goblin magic, both from Series 3.

Below are listings of named spells that were never cast and remain mysterious.

Series 1: ENERGY, OPPOSITE, SHIELD

Series 2: MEDAL, POWER, SHOVEL, UNITAS

Series 3: VIGOUR, GLORY, FLIGHT

Series 4: BUT, HERO, SPRINT, TINY, TRANSFORMATION

Series 5: GHOST, SWITCH

Series 6: BACKFIRE, TREAT

Series 7: REMAKE, UNDO

Series 8: SAVANT

The Knightmare adventure gamebooks contain a plethora of spells (see: spells from the books), but because the gamebooks can be replayed, there need be no such thing as an uncast spell.

For information on the proposed but unseen Series 1 spell YUCK, please see the Lexicon entry on the Monster’s Stomach.
